Smoke Detector Saves A Life
Fairplay, CO – The occupant was awakened by the sound of a smoke
detector, looked into the living room and saw fire blocking the exit,
closed the bedroom door behind him, and crawled out through the
bedroom window to the safety of a neighbor’s house. This is what we
have all been taught since grade school, and on Friday June 2, 2006 it
helped save a man’s life.
North-West Fire Protection District responded to the report of a fire at 799
Trout Creek Dr shortly after 11 p.m. when neighbors called 911 to report
the fire. Six engines and 9 firefighters arrived on scene and quickly
attacked the fire, keeping it controlled in the room it started in. Within
minutes the fire was extinguished and crews checked the home for
extension.
There was no structural damage to the house, but there was extensive
smoke damage. Much of the carpet and drywall was ruined. The fire
appears to have been caused by an electrical cord pinched under some
furniture. The only occupant of the home was transported to a medical
facility for observation with smoke inhalation, but has been released.
